what we do
We do not sell spare parts and we do not sell cars. But we do know the associated software solutions – pretty well actually. We develop catalog systems, ERP systems and offer individual services for all aspects of the automotive aftermarket. We have been doing all this for over a quarter of a century. We are the leading provider in our field and have become an established pillar in the automotive independent aftermarket (IAM). At the same time, we are increasingly expanding our field of business to include the entire automotive market. Our customers include parts industry, parts wholesalers, workshops and also the drivers themselves. We serve the car, van, truck and motorcycle segments.
And we know the needs and requirements of our individual target groups very well. As a result, we continuously optimize the processes along the automotive chain with our products and innovations. We are 100 % family-owned. Under the TOPMOTIVE umbrella brand, all the companies in our group operate independently of the influence of individual interest groups. This enables us to continue and further expand the partnership with all our customers in equal measure.
WHAT CHARACTERIZES US
How we have evolved
Floppy disks, telephone orders, DVDs, slow computers. What was normal back then is no longer conceivable today. Communication is changing all the time – today, perhaps faster than ever. With our products, we play a key role in shaping the flow of information along the process chain of the automotive market. Starting with the TecDoc standard, through the introduction of catalog systems, to self-learning information systems in a fast-moving, digital world.
Foundation & TecDoc Standard: The TOPMOTIVE‘s history begins with the founding of DVSE GmbH on 01.04.1994 by Udo Knabe-Paulsen and Michael Konz. With an initial staff of three members at the Bargteheide site and the subsequent founding of MSDas GmbH in 1996, the foundations were laid for our today's success. As a "full service provider" for TecDoc, we have developed the standard for the independent aftermarket and we are still pretty proud of this.
Development of the spare parts catalog: We presented the first prototype of a TecDoc catalog at the Automechanika 1994. We made this available on 01.04.1995. In the same year, we developed the first retailer catalog for Coparts Germany. To this day, this represents the basis of our company's orientation - namely working with and for the aftermarket.
First international catalog project: At this year, the first international catalog followed in Norway.
Cooperation with ITG: This was followed by cooperation with ATR and its former shareholders Stahlgruber, Wessels and Matthies. These projects continue to this day. This has strengthened our resolve to be a reliable and long-term partner.
Integration of further data sources : Already at the end of the 90‘s, our catalogs found their way into the process flows of car workshops through the integration of labour times and prices. Henceforth, technical data from various data partners (including HaynesPro at that time Vivid) were integrated in our systems.
Globalisation: The first global cooperation with an ITG followed after the turn of the millennium. Since then, we have increasingly developed international markets. Over the years, we have been able to win over both cooperative and independent parts wholesalers and renowned industrial customers from the independent aftermarket.
Expansion: Due to the development of new markets, more manpower was needed. Therefore, we opened new locations during this period: Targu Mures (RO), Stuttgart (D), Wetter (D), Vienna (AT), Wuppertal (D), Etten-Leur (NL), Brusque (BRA), Iphofen (D).
Umbrella Brand TOPMOTIVE: By founding the Stuttgart sales office in 2007, the umbrella brand TOPMOTIVE was launched by DVSE GmbH, as the rights holder of the brand. Until today, the subsidiaries of the group of companies have a unified presence under this brand.
Entry into the truck business: TOPMOTIVE expands its product portfolio to include commercial vehicles.
Generation change: Transfer of company shares to the second generation.
NEXT: Over the years, we have continuously developed our catalog systems to play a key role in shaping the shift towards digital communication in IAM. In 2016, the starting signal was given for the development of NEXT - the first generation of self-learning information systems. NEXT forms the basis for many further developments along the entire process chain. NEXT is at the heart of TOPMOTIVE's development and represents one of the most important milestones in the company's history.
Dealer-Management-Systems: TOPMOTIVE records 5,000 users in the DMS area this year. MSDas GmbH has been developing integrated management systems for automotive workshops and the parts trade since 1994. The „KfzWIN“ IT solution makes everyday work considerably easier for both workshops and wholesalers.
Automechanika Innovation Award: We presented NEXT for the first time at the industry trade fair in Frankfurt and were a finalist of the Automechanika Innovation Award in the category "Dealer & Workshop Management".
25th Birthday: The anniversary year full of milestones: We celebrated a quarter of a century of company history, launched NEXT and moved into our new company building in Bargteheide. Previously, the approximately 150 employees were spread out over several buildings. The new office building offers space for 250 people and thus room for the upcoming growth in all company divisions. In addition to classic workstations for concentrating and withdrawing, there are also open team boxes and common rooms. With additional ad-hoc workstations, TOPMOTIVE is pursuing mobile and agile working.
Development of the business model: Digital transformation is the major guiding theme of our time. We expanded our portfolio with a new business segment and founded the subsidiary Cartelligence GmbH. We are now also consciously integrating the the car and the cardriver into the communication of the entire process chain.
Autosiastik Software GmbH is the new subsidiary in the TOPMOTIVE Group.
Fighting skilled worker shortage :Together with social media influencers Christian Cloppenburg and Marco ten Hagen from "Schrauberblog", TOPMOTIVE has launched the Schrauberjobs job portal. It contains job advertisements for technical and commercial professions in the automotive industry.
The vehicle registration document becomes digital:Together with our partner Autosiastik Software GmbH, we have launched fahrzeugschein.de. This makes the driver's license digital and also provides lots of useful information for all drivers
Change of management: After almost three decades in management, our founders Udo Knabe-Paulsen and Rainer Schmeling are leaving us for a well-deserved retirement. At the same time, the operational and corporate management is being passed on to the next generation. With Anja Pleus and Thies Schmeling as the new owners, we remain a family-run company. Stefan Schneider also joins the management team.
New management structure: With an internal restructuring, we are repositioning ourselves for future initiatives and projects. The newly established group of managers, which is made up of key positions from various areas, complements and supports the management in future decisions.
Company mergers: Strategic mergers were successfully completed in the TOPMOTIVE Group: B-formance GmbH and AWDOC GmbH have been merged into DVSE GmbH, while Topmotive Systems GmbH has been merged with MSDas GmbH. These measures are part of the TOPMOTIVE Group's current strategic changes aimed at optimizing its product and service offerings.
Professional qualification: With the "kfz-translator", we are providing a new digital training tool for trainees and non-German-speaking skilled workers. The tool is the result of a joint project with the Schleswig-Holstein State Association of the Motor Vehicle Trade and Deutsche Automobil Treuhand (DAT).

Bargteheide
Our headquarters is the technical and technological heart of the company and also our largest location. Here, our software and product development has always taken place. Since 2019 we are finally all united under one roof: from project management and support to technology and administration.

Our project “Sustainable TOPMOTIVE” consists of numerous components. Both we as a company and our employees contribute to the recognizable responsibility in the area of social, ecological and economic sustainability. Together, we want to ensure that we act in a holistically sustainable manner.
These include, for example, our staff fluctuation rate, which has been kept consistently low for years, and the establishment of a support association – initiated by employees. Our new corporate headquarters, with its optimal energy balance, plays a crucial role with regard to our ecological footprint. Our company fleet is not replaced, but supplemented and expanded when it makes sense. Mobile work has been established at our company for years, regardless of worldwide pandemics. And not to forget – the economic component: Through our products and services, automotive spare parts are identified more precisely, thus reducing incorrect orders and returns.
