TOPMOTIVE Market Indicator

Quality of Your Parts Coverage by Product Group

About

TOPMOTIVE Market Indicator at a Glance

The Market Indicator evaluates the data and parts coverage of parts manufacturers. Using a scoring system developed by TOPMOTIVE, a ranking is generated based on market-relevant data coverage and volume — thus clearly showing how well a manufacturer’s data is maintained.

A high score indicates excellent data linking, while a low score suggests gaps in the product range or inadequate data maintenance. The analysis is conducted by product group and parts manufacturer. The score consists of two components: links to vehicles and links to original or competitor part numbers.

Market Indicator

How is the Market Indicator calculated??

magine a mechanic in a repair shop looking for replacement parts in his parts catalog. He has two ways to find the parts he needs:

1. Vehicle search: Mechanics often select a specific vehicle model, such as a VW Golf IV 1.4 or an Audi A4 B4 1.9 TDI, and then search for parts that fit that vehicle.

2. Part number search: Sometimes mechanics search for parts using a specific part number, such as “1K0615601AB” or “2Q0615601H.”

Every time the mechanic selects a part from his catalog, it is counted. At the end of the year, we look at which parts were selected most frequently. We analyze this data broken down by product groups and parts manufacturers.

Suppose 1,000,000 brake pads were added to the shopping cart following vehicle searches:

  • 100,000 selections for the VW Golf result in a market indicator of 10 (1,000,000 ÷ 100,000)
  • 10,000 selections for an Audi A4 result in a market indicator of 1

For product searches, for example, 2,000,000 brake pads were added to the shopping cart:

  • 150,000 selections following a search for “1K0615601AB” result in a market indicator of 7.5
  • 80,000 selections after searching for “2Q0615601H” result in a market indicator of 4

And here’s the key point: We check your vehicle linkage data and your product linkage data. If there is no brake pad data available for this VW Golf, a 10% gap results, which means your market indicator drops by 10 points. The more popular the missing part, the more market indicator points you lose. This applies equally to product searches.

In this book, you’ll find the top 10 parts manufacturers for each product group, as well as the market indicator for the most significant product groups (based on TOPMOTIVE Analytics data from 2023 and current association data). This gives you an understanding of the current status quo and—based on your market indicator—your own position, as well as starting points for improvement.
